Playing free arcades without getting nickel-and-dimed

Most arcades on phones are free with ads, and that model can range from tolerable to genuinely hostile. There are ways to stay on the good side of it.

First, airplane mode. A shocking number of arcade games run fine offline, and no connection means no ads. Pip & Plummet becomes a completely different, calmer game the moment you cut its internet.

Second, be suspicious of games that gate progress behind timers or currency you're clearly meant to buy. Arcades should reward skill, not patience or your wallet. If a game keeps dangling a purchase, it doesn't respect your time.

Third, the one-time "remove ads" purchase is often the best few euros you'll spend, if the game deserves your ongoing attention. I pay it happily for games I open daily.

Free-to-play isn't inherently bad. It's about whether the game trusts you to have fun, or treats you as something to extract value from.
